Immigration changes to come as new law takes effect in July

The revised immigration law will take effect next July 9 and the government will start accepting applications for new residence registration cards on Jan. 13, the Cabinet decided Tuesday, paving the way for increased government scrutiny through a centralized immigration control of foreign nationals.

For example, documented foreigners will have their maximum period of stay extended to five years instead of the current three years. Re-entry to Japan will also be allowed without applying for a permit as long as the time away is less than a year, according to the Justice Ministry.

Permanent residents, meanwhile, will have to apply for a new residence card within three years from July 2012. Required materials necessary for an application have not been determined yet.

よくあることだが、事はシナリオ通りには進まなかった。化学療法を受けた後、エイダンの体が回復するのには毎回予想以上の時間がかかった。要するに、骨髄が機能していないようだった。この事実は、集められた他のデータと併せて、白血病発病以前に骨髄異形成症候群（ＭＤＳ）という別の疾患があったのだろうという最終的な診断を導くことになる。骨髄移植は、もはや選択肢のひとつではなく、不可欠なものとなった。

Minamiashigara City had the opportunity to build friendships duringa one-day bilateral sumo-wrestling experi-ence Sunday at the Minamiashigara City Sports Center in Kanagawa. This was the third annual event that the Camp Zama community and the city councils of Zama and Minamiashigara coordinated in order to share their cultures and build a bilateral relationship through the traditional Japanese sport.

Costco Opens in Nearby Zama Town

By the way, some of our local readers may be interested to know that in Zama they just opened a Costco store. I usually have my Costco items delivered by The Flying Pig or the Foreign Buyer`s Club, but if you have a car you can go to the Costco store in Zama, Machida or Yokohama. Some of us North Americans in Japan love Costco and miss it. But now we can shop there in Japan!
